Villagers Got Physically Assaulted in Oddor Meanchey

On Thursday of October 1, 2009 joint 9 armed forces, policemen, military police and RCAF solders assaulted a mother and a son unconscious in Anlung Veng district, Oddor Meanchey province because of valuable timbers. The victims were a 44-year-old woman, named Mol Sina and her 24-year-old son, named Chhoeun Chanorn, sent to Anlung Veng hospital for emergency treatment. They left the hospital on September 6 after they felt much better.

On the day of the act, Mr. Srey Naren reported, those forces came to Trapaeng Prey commune, Anlung Veng district to collectively buy all value timbers from local villagers. Eventually they went into Chhoeun Chanorn’s house to bargain the price of timbers. The group gave him 100 USD per cubic meter, but he asked for 500. This bargain did not come into an agreement. Suddenly one of the men handed out his gun, called AK47, and banged him on head until he lost conscious. Seeing that Mrs. Mol Sina ran to help his son only to be hit unconscious as well.

Mr. Chean Sokhom, the victim’s father said that they accused his family of illegal logging and forced them to thumbprint at police office.

Mr. Srey Naren said that after the family filed a complaint with ADHOC, he sent the case to Oddor Meanchey prosecutor for further investigation.
