Market Traders Blocked of Access to Premier House

At least around 50 traders from Tunloip market in Takeo traveled to protest in front of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s house on August 14, 2009 in Takmao district, Kandal province to seek his intervention over market issue.

Mr. Try Buntheng, a trader in the market, said earlier that month some 120 traders once came to ask for intervention, but there was no acceptably positive solution. By contrast, some police officers intimidated and suppressed the group. Another time, the police did the same.

In relation to the market issue, he revealed that the market’s owner and local authority had repaired some parts by creating fence, putting the roof and making the cement floor. However, they sold to the trader in the amount of 8,000 US$ up to more then 10,000. This was too dear for us to sell.

Right now after the solution, some could sell as normal, but the place is smaller and some sell in the space.
