Sam Rainsy Party Activist Alleged of Private Property Destruction

A member of SPR provincial council Mr. La Peng living in Veunsai village, Veunsai commune, Veunsia district, Ratanakiri province was allegedly sued by a villager Lem Chhun nearby after he lifted up SRP label. Mr. La Peng was summoned by the provincial court to clarify the case on July 20, 2009.

He reported that before he decided to install the label, he had already informed the communal authority; and in addition it was the public area near the river. It did not belong to the man.

As settling the label, Lem Chhun was trying to ban them, but it was impossible. So during the night they were pulling it out.

When he did not see the label, Mr. La Peng filed a complaint with the court, but his case had not been taken into account. By contrast when Lem Chhum sued him, the court turned to summon him for clarification of the matter.

Whereas Lem Chhun asserted that these SRP officials put the label in front of his house, and also intimidated his life. Therefore he decided to lodge this lawsuit.

Ratanakiri Deputy Provincial Prosecutor Ros Rasan said that he decided not to accuse Mr. La Peng because the label had yet been pulled away.
