Sam Rainsy Party Activist Shot Dead

Sam Rainsy Party activist living in Kor village, Chamnar Lew commune, Staung district, Kampong Thom Mr. Touch Hort, 46, was shot dead on September 4, 2009 by 2 unidentified men around 7:30 PM as he was having dinner with the family.

As investigated, on the day of the event, the 2 men were driving a motorbike, stopped in front of his house near the fence and started firing two shot. One of the bullets hit him under the left armpit and out of the right; and left him dead in the act.

Mr. Touch Hort went into SRP in 1998. He used to be once attempted to kill. He came to Phnom Penh to hire for 2 years.

For this event, the foremost suspect was Chheat Chhea, aged 23, living in the village because he used to have a verbal quarrel with the victim on August 25. That day Chheat Chhea was drinking Khmer White wine. He poured a small glass of wine and handed to Mr. Hort, but he denied drinking it. This caused Chheat Chhea furious and coursed Mr. Hort. Moreover, Chheat Chhea followed and made trouble up to Mr. Hort’s house. He also invited Mr. Hort for fighting some day. The following day, Mr. Hort filed a complaint with village chief. The solution had not been made yet.

Mr. Chhuam Run, local ADHOC investigator said that on September 4, Chhea Chhea was still riding his bike in the village. However, when he got this information, he ran away from the village. Whereas Mr. Sam Gnoeun provincial deputy police chief said that Chheat Chhea was the suspect of the case due to spite.
