Air Shot to Break out Demonstration in Kampong Speu

Samroang Torng district police, Kampong Speu shot into the air on May 21, 2009 in order to suppress some 1,000 garment workers as they had been doing demonstration for 4 days in Sang Wu Factory. The demonstration was to ask the factory owner to respect for Cambodia Labor Law; however, the boss of the factory did not show up to solve this problem at all.

Mr. Korng Heang, provincial governor reported that the protest held to react to a lawsuit from administrative staffs to accuse three union representatives of allegedly destroying the company equipment during Khmer New Year as they were playing powder.

Meanwhile the workers also sued their employer to accept their 22 requests regarding labor condition.

According to Mr. Ou Phoeung, Khmer Youth Federal representative additionally reported during the event the police hit 3 men unconscious and a man injured his arm while they were suppressing.
