Violence Occurred in Kampong Speu Land Dispute

On March 18, 2010 about 100 villagers came out to protest against around 100 joint armed forces, which went to implement court-ordered proceedings in land conflict of 65 hectares between 88 families and Meng Kate company, belongs to Chang Kuseng. At the beginning of the implementation, which was led by Judge Keo Mony and joint forces, violence burst out between the group and villagers.

At least 10 villagers and 14 officers got wounded in the clash. Those local people used stones, sticks and slingshots to throw at those officers; and the authorities arrived with AK 47 rifles, shields and electric batons.

Related to the above event, Judge Keo Mony asserted he followed the final judgment of Supreme Court to seize land from the losers (villagers) to give to the winner (Meng Kate Company).

However, villagers of 88 families claimed that they had been living in the area since 1979; and never sold it to the company at all.
