On August 11, 2009, villager representatives from 11 affected villages in Kra Kor, Kra Vanh and Sampov Meas districts came to Phnom Penh to lodge complaints with the national level authorities against the Phea Phimex Co., Ltd., which received an economic land concession from the Cambodian government of about 315, 028 hectares in two provinces, Pursat (138,963 hectares) and Kampong Chhnang (176,065 hectares).
In the complaint, which was sent to the Human Rights Committee of the National Assembly, the concession has affected 4 communes, Kbal Trach, Chheu Tom, Svay Sar and Ansar Chambak.
Since 2004, Phea Phimex Co., Ltd brought in with tractors and bulldozers to clear the area. This has destroyed forests, which they partly depended on as the extra source of family income by collecting sub-forest products, wildlife and also other natural resources. What is more, villagers did not have other grass area for their cattle.
Villagers have filed complaints against the above company many times, but their cases have not been solved yet. This time they still requested those concerned authorities; especially the national authority level to intervene them by cancelling the contract with the company.
