Ethnic Jarai Continued its Protest against DM Group Co., Ltd

On June 14, 2010 affected ethnic Jarai villagers planned to set up a billboard on a new built road, National Road 78 in Ratanakiri province in order to seek for fair and just solution from DM Group Co., Ltd, which belongs to the sister of Finance Minister Keat Chhon, Keat Kolny.

As mentioned by those people, the purpose of this plan was also to spread out information to visitors, travelers, government officials and the public that the area has been in a long conflict between them and the rich and powerful businesswoman without any acceptable solution.

The land conflict between the above villagers and the company has taken place a long time. As well, the above victims have been also trying to seek assistance from the Cambodian government over and over, from local and provincial level as well as the national one. However, their problems, difficulties and concerns have been ignored.

In spite of that, villager representatives have been intimidated and physically assaulted and shot. Some of them were arrested and sent to jail by the provincial court. Being involved with the case, rights activists, including the President of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights, Mr. Ou Virak, Mr. Pen Bunna, Adhoc provincial coordinator, Chay Thy and the RFA staff, Ratha Visal were also accused of inciting villagers to fight against the company and summoned for questioning related to the accusation of disinformation.
