Villagers Lodged Complaints with National Government over Land Conflict in Kampong Cham

On August 11, 2009 enthic Stieng representatives came to Phnom Penh in order to lodge joint complaints with the national government; such as the Cabinet of Prime Minister, Office of Councils of Ministers, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the National Authority of Land Conflict Resolution, in order to ask for intervention over the problem.

In the complaints sent to those authorities, the residents reported that even though the affected families had filed complaints with local authorities, village and communal chief, district governor and provincial governor as well as other concerned departments in the province, their problem has not been solved.

As well, the complaints raised that the companies, which belonged business tycoons– Heng Sok Nguon, Chorn Thavry and Ko Sothy– have grabbed their land of 10,603 hectares since 2006.
