Land Victim Sentenced to One Year in Siem Reap Prison

Another villager was arrested by a group of 3 police officers on April 15, 2010 while he and his son came back from a local pagoda to give food to monks, accusing him of illegally detaining people, related to a land dispute in Chikraeng commune, Chikraeng district when local villagers came to protest at the provincial court to ask for the release of 12 people who were also detained connected to a violence on March 22, 2009.

Klin Ien, 56, was captured as he and his son were on the way back from his village’s pagoda on the occasion of Khmer New Year. However as reported by his own wife, Ms. Min Huan, 45, the arrest was made without prior notification of arrest warrant from any judge, but those police officers told her that they received order from Judge Khom Kosal, who issued an arrest warrant in June 2009.

The arrest has added up to 13 people in jail related to the land conflict in Chikraeng, but the perpetrators who shot at those villagers have been taken into custody.

On April 19, 2010 Trial Judge (the name was not known) announced the last verdict that he was found guilty and sentenced to 12 months in jail.
