Government Ignores the Difficulty of Boeung Kak Villagers

Up to now, it has been seen the Cambodian government has failed to intervene local villagers, who live in Boeung Kak area and who have been negatively and severely impacted by Sukaku Inc. Over and over again, from a group of villagers to another have been trying to seek assistance from the government, but their endeavor for that and their suffering have been still the same.

On 26 and 27 November 2010, the time when everyone in Cambodia is busy and suffered from the event of 22 November 2010, the company was dredging sand to fulfill the lake even though in so doing caused villagers houses in flood.

Related to this event, the district or Khan and Municipal authorities did not take action in order to protect people from being in such danger and difficulties. They failed to abide by their duties as the government authorities.

According to the interview of the Radio Free Asia with a group of children, who had been in the situation, they felt so scared because their house had been about under water. They could not sleep. Some of them were even under 10 years old. They reported in the interview that they were afraid that they could not run in time and some thought that they could not leave their pottery and dishes and other stuffs in their house.

It has been seen that the company dared to do anything without thinking about the law of the country or without thinking it has violated human rights. It can also be said that the country of no government and leader. It is the country of anarchy. The rich and the powerful are the winners and the poor and the powerless are the losers. The losers are only waiting to meet the last severe day of life.

Even though many group of right NGOs and media that love justice and democracy and they have been trying their best to shake the government’s shoulders to turn their heads to see the tragedy of those poor people, they still ignored like there was nothing taking place.

Therefore, who could help those victims if the government, who acts on behalf of the parents of the people, did not care about that? In contrast, the Cambodian government from year to year still gets donations from many democratic country donors. Who cares?
