Villagers Blocked of Access to Kampong Chhnang Province

On Tuesday, September 14, 2010, around 300-400 villagers from Boribour district were blocked of access to Kampong Chhnang province in order to submit complaints with the provincial authorities to seek for intervention on their land, which was allegedly grabbed by Pheapimex Co. Ltd.

Human Rights Party President Blocked

On July 4, 2010 the Human Rights Party president was blocked of his access to visit villagers in Prey Yuthkar commune, Koh Andet district, Takeo province by local authorities. The purpose of this visit was to discuss issue, as well as expressing opinions; especially problems that those people had faced in their own area.

Lawmakers, Activists and Journalists Blocked Access to Border Marker 270

On June 3, 2010, a group of more than 20 opposition lawmakers, accompanied by communal and district councilors, made a trip to investigate the issues raised by a request for intervention from villagers affected by Border Marker 270 in Takeo province. Also participating in the trip were local and international journalists who sought to determine whether marker 270 had been planted onto villagers’ farmland and encroached on Cambodian territory.

Serious Crackdown of Land Issue in Dangkar District

A protest by around 100 people from Praka village, Prey Sar commune, Dangkar district, Phnom Penh was harshly suppressed early morning by the district police on March 01, 2010 while the villagers attempted to travel to Hun Sen’s house in Takmao town to seek the premier’s intervention on a land conflict in their area.

Rights Groups Blocked of Access to Visit Ethnic Group in Mondulkiri

About 30 civil society and NGOs represenatatives were blocked and banned their visit of Phnong ethnic minoritiy community in forest areas of Bousra commune, Pich Chreada district, Mondulkiri province on January 21, 2010 by French company representative on the way to the afore-mentioned location.

Miss Landmine Banned of Beauty Pageant

On August 2, 2009 the Cambodian government decided to stop the project of Miss Landmine Cambodia 2009 beauty pageant. This also banned some 20 participants from traveling to join in the ceremony for the reason of protecting the dignity of the amputees.

Market Traders Blocked of Access to Premier House

At least around 50 traders from Tunloip market in Takeo traveled to protest in front of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s house on August 14, 2009 in Takmao district, Kandal province to seek his intervention over market issue.

Authorities Banned Meeting of Khmer Krom Ceremony

On 4 June 2009, Khmer Kampuchea Krom Community (KKKC) initiated and led by Mr. Thach Setha, executive director planned to hold the 60th commemorations of the loss of Khmer Kampuchea Krom Territory to Vietnam during the period French protectorate in 1850s. Meanwhile, all participants were also planning to offer food to 1949 Buddhist monks, the mark of the year when French government tore down the Kampuchear Krom land to Vietnam up to present. The venue was first intended to hold at Chaktumuk Conference Hall, located near Plaza Hotel in Chaktomuk commune, Chamkamorn district, Phnom Penh.

Mondulkiri Activists Blocked of their Access to Ethnic Group

On June 16, 2009 some local rights activists were blocked and banned the access to the visit of Phnong ethnic villagers in Pouteut village, Bou Sra commune, Pich Chenda district, Mondulkiri province that were celebrating their traditional ceremony in an attempt to slaughter a buffalo and put curse on a French-Cambodian rubber planation that the villagers claimed had grabbed their forest and shifting land. In addition the group became the subject of charages of incitement for helping those ethnic residents to protest against the company.

Mondulkiri Police Banned Rights Group from Meeting with Ethnic Minority

On May 23, 2009 around 10 NGOs were banned by local police in Tangtes commune, Pichreada district, Mondulkiri from doing research and meeting with local villagers in 2 villages, Trangtes and Ratek village of the above area. Those 10 NGOs included ADHOC, CCC, World Vision, DPA, NTLP, YRDP, IACT, CED, CLEC and Sor Sor Troung.
