Gov't Sued Moeung Sonn over Disinformation and Incitement

No longer after the former commentator for Cambodia Television Network (CTN), named Soy Sopheap intimidated to countersue Mr. Moeung Sonn, the president of the Khmer Civilization Foundation (KCF), the government on Tuesday 2 June, 2009 filed disinformation and incitement lawsuits with the Phnom Penh Municipal Court against him for criticizing the installation of lights at Angkor Wat.

According to a transcript of an interview posted on Voice of America’s website Monday, Mr. Moeung Sonn said the heat generated by the lights would probably damage the temple walls. And the Light Installation Project which had been planned to set on the Angkor Wat's walls initiated by Mr. Sok An, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister in Charge of the Office of Councils of Ministers and the president of Apsara Authority.

For the above reason, KCF president left Cambodia for France on June 5 after the government lawyer sued him for 10 million Riels ($2,500).

Mr. Moeung Sonn was trying to seek an apology from the Prime Minister of Cambodia for his worry over the project, but that did not work.
